About Us

We like to get outside. While we’re mostly weekend warriors going on relatively average adventures, Maggie and I had the opportunity in 2022 to take over a year off from work to explore more of the U.S. and abroad. While the writing here is centered around our outings, I try my best to incorporate some fun facts on the geology, ecology, and history of the places we visit. I hope you enjoy! A little more about us:

Maggie – I grew up outside of Hartford, Connecticut. Getting into the outdoors was a common occurrence for me when I was young, hiking around local hills with my mom, exploring New England, and often going on caving or river trips in the summer. After graduating college, I thru hiked (most of) the Appalachian Trail in 2017, and later thru hiked the Colorado Trail in 2021. I love the simplicity of following a continuous trail from start to finish, and the challenges that come along with it. While trail life isn’t always easy, it is so incredibly rewarding.

Russell – I was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. Ever curious as a kid, I went into engineering and landed myself a job right out of college, following the “normal progression” of things as they say. While there is certainly something to be said for a steady office job, I’ve always felt most alive in the outdoors. Growing up, I took the Rocky Mountains for granted. Camping, skiing, and hiking in the mountains was a normal part of life. After moving to the east coast for my first job, I quickly realized how special it is to have access to such natural grandeur. When the opportunity presented itself to become a full time adventurer, it was not a decision “if,” but “when.”
